It is bizzare.  Pro Mod celebrates 20 years of being a class and IHRA drops it. I got my IHRA rulebook last week and Pro Mod is not listed. 
I have known for some time that IHRA was changing their Pro Class format to invitation booked in cars and the Sportsman classes will remain as always.
The IHRA Pro catagories are-Mountain Motor Pro Stock ,Top Fuel-Pro fuel Dragster-Prostalgia Nitro Funny Cars.
I called IHRA last week to see how my annual IHRA Membership, Pro Mod Lic. And my 1111 Pro Mod number will be handled. 
After being passed around to several departments a young lady said she would transfer me to Mike Baker. I got his answering service. I gave up and hung up.
I guess my IHRA Pro Mod lic. and perm # 1111 are now moot   
No wonder NHRA jumped on making Pro Modified a bonified NHRA class with Wallys awarded and a NHRA Championship series. 
But NHRA Pro Mod will still not be shown during the HOLY of HOLY Full Throttle time slot. Pro Mods will be shown seperate at a diff. time.
Fear of Pro Mod being too popular and crowd pleasing and upstaging the Ho Hum Pro Stock class is highly suspected.
I do respect and realize what it takes to run NHRA Pro Stock. But let's be honest. What would you rather see?
Perhaps since I come from the Animal Jim/Wild Bill Kuhlmann "Run What You Brung --and--You Better Bring Enough" era I may be bias.  |
